Danbury, CT (July 23, 2026) – Four people were hurt and roughly 80 residents were displaced after a fire tore through a condominium building in a complex off Sandpit Road on Thursday, July 23.
Fire officials began receiving calls around 4:12 p.m. The fire quickly spread through the building and reached a second alarm within minutes. Crews found flames spreading through the building when they reached the property.
Roughly 60 emergency personnel worked to control the fire. Crews used a ground ladder to safely rescue one resident trapped on a balcony.
Three civilians were taken to Danbury Hospital. One emergency crew member was also taken for evaluation, while a dog rescued from the building was brought to a veterinary hospital in Newtown.
A three-floor pancake collapse occurred inside the structure during firefighting operations. Crews brought most of the fire under control in about two hours.
The American Red Cross is helping roughly 80 residents displaced from their homes. The Danbury Fire Marshal’s Office is working to determine what sparked the fire.
