Connecticut Pedestrian Accidents

In the United States, motor vehicle collisions remain one of the leading causes of injury and death. Each year, over 6 million crashes occur on U.S. roads, injuring more than 3 million people and resulting in nearly 40,000 fatalities. Alarmingly, the vast majority—over 93%—of these accidents are linked to driver negligence.

Driver negligence comes in many forms, but some of the most frequent and dangerous behaviors include:

  • Distracted driving (e.g., texting or using a phone)

  • Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol

  • Excessive speeding

  • Fatigue or drowsy driving

Pedestrians are among the most vulnerable road users. When involved in traffic accidents, they suffer severe or fatal injuries more than half the time. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), approximately 51% of pedestrian crashes are caused by negligent driving.

If you or someone close to you has been struck while walking, it’s crucial to determine whether driver negligence played a role. If so, you may have the right to pursue financial compensation for medical expenses, emotional distress, and other damages.
