Hampton, CT (June 2, 2025) – A serious crash involving a bicycle and a vehicle left one person with significant injuries on Friday afternoon May 30, according to Connecticut State Police.

Troopers responded to the scene on Route 6—also known as Providence Turnpike—at around 4 p.m. after receiving reports of a collision between a car and a cyclist.

Authorities confirmed that the individual involved sustained serious injuries. The cause of the crash remains under active investigation. For several hours, Route 6 was shut down between East Old Route 6 and Route 97 as emergency crews worked at the scene. The roadway has since reopened.

We hope for the rapid and full recovery of the injured victim.

Connecticut Bicycle Accidents

Bicycle crashes continue to be a serious issue on Connecticut roadways, often resulting in devastating injuries or even fatalities. Across the United States, motor vehicle accidents cause more than 3 million injuries and nearly 40,000 deaths each year — and cyclists are among the most vulnerable road users. Sadly, a large percentage of these crashes are preventable, with driver negligence playing a role in more than 93% of all incidents.

In Connecticut, many bicycle collisions occur due to:

  • Distracted driving (texting, phone use)
  • Drunk or drug-impaired driving
  • Speeding or aggressive behavior near cyclists
  • Driver inattention at intersections or while turning

According to national safety data, over half of all bike crashes involving a vehicle result in serious or fatal injuries to the cyclist. Unlike drivers, bicyclists lack the protection of a vehicle, making them especially susceptible to head injuries, broken bones, spinal damage, and emotional trauma.

If you or someone you love was injured while riding a bicycle, it’s important to determine whether a driver’s careless or reckless actions were to blame. If so, you may be entitled to financial compensation to help cover:

  • Emergency medical treatment and ongoing care
  • Lost wages or future earning capacity
  • Pain, suffering, and emotional distress
  • Damage to your bike and gear
