Hartford, CT (June 4, 2025) — A tragic single-car accident occurred late Tuesday evening in Hartford, resulting in the death of a passenger. At approximately 9:59 p.m., authorities responded to the rear parking area of 90 Retreat Avenue after a white 2001 Acura collided with an unoccupied passenger van.
The vehicle’s driver, a 41-year-old man, along with two passengers—a 38-year-old woman and an 18-year-old female—were rushed to Hartford Hospital with severe, life-threatening injuries.
The front passenger, Christine Camacho, was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving at the hospital.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver was traveling northbound on Franklin Avenue at excessive speeds before losing control. The vehicle struck a fence, continued into the parking lot, crashed into two trees, and finally impacted the parked van.
The Hartford Police Crime Scene Division continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Connecticut Car Accidents
Car accidents remain a significant challenge across the United States, impacting not just individuals but entire families and communities. With millions of collisions occurring every year, efforts to reduce their frequency and severity are more critical than ever. On average, there are about 6.5 million car crashes annually in the U.S., which breaks down to roughly 17,800 crashes each day. Tragically, over 7,600 people suffer injuries daily in these incidents, and more than 100 lose their lives every day.
Looking back to 2021, nearly 40,000 fatal crashes were recorded nationwide, claiming the lives of more than 42,900 people. While the causes of car accidents vary widely, three factors consistently top the list:
- Driver Distraction: According to the American Automobile Association’s traffic safety division, distraction plays a role in 25% to 50% of all reported crashes.
- Impaired Driving: The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that about 32% of fatal accidents involve drunk drivers. The most effective way to prevent these tragedies is simple—don’t drive under the influence.
- Speeding: Speeding remains one of the deadliest factors in car crashes, impairing reaction times and driving ability, increasing the likelihood of collisions, and worsening the severity of accidents.
