Preston, CT (October 30, 2025) – A pedestrian who was struck in a violent hit-and-run earlier this week died from his injuries on Wednesday, October 29.

The crash happened around 9:25 p.m. on Monday, October 27, along Route 2 in Preston. According to the Connecticut State Police, 57-year-old Robert Edwin McGlothin of Norwich was walking near the roadway when a vehicle hit him and sped off. The force of the impact threw him onto the roadway, leaving him critically injured. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, providing life-saving aid before rushing him to the hospital. Despite their efforts, McGlothin did not survive.

Investigators believe the vehicle involved was a dark-colored 2019 to 2025 BMW X Series SUV with front-end and undercarriage damage. The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving the victim behind. Detectives are reviewing nearby surveillance footage and gathering evidence to identify and locate the suspect.

The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information about the incident or the vehicle is urged to come forward.

We extend our deepest condolences to Mr. McGlothin’s family and loved ones as they grieve this tragic loss.

Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Connecticut

Pedestrian crashes are among the most devastating accidents in Connecticut. Without any protection against speeding vehicles, pedestrians are at high risk for severe injuries such as head trauma, broken bones, and internal bleeding. Many victims do not survive the impact. According to recent state data, pedestrian deaths have continued to rise across Connecticut, especially on highways and dimly lit roads like Route 2.

The most common causes of fatal pedestrian crashes include:

  • Reckless or distracted driving, such as texting or using a GPS while driving
  • Speeding which reduces reaction time and increases the impact of a collision
  • Failure to yield to pedestrians in or near crosswalks
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

When a loved one is lost in a hit-and-run crash, families face unbearable grief and uncertainty. Along with emotional pain, they often deal with unexpected financial strain from medical expenses, funeral costs, and the loss of income or companionship.

Under Connecticut law, families have the right to file a wrongful death claim against those responsible. This legal action can help secure compensation for their losses and hold negligent drivers accountable. An experienced Connecticut wrongful death lawyer can investigate the crash, gather evidence, and pursue justice for the family.
