Hamden, CT (November 5, 2025) – A 34-year-old man tragically lost his life on Tuesday, November 4, in a violent scooter crash on Mix Avenue near the south entrance of Broadmoor Apartments in Hamden.
Authorities identified the victim as Shareef Johnson, of Meriden. Investigators said Johnson was riding his scooter southbound around 4:40 p.m. when a car exiting the apartment complex suddenly pulled into his path. The impact threw him from the scooter, leaving him critically injured on the roadway.
Emergency crews arrived within minutes and found Johnson unresponsive but still alive. Paramedics worked tirelessly to stabilize him before rushing him to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
Police said the driver briefly stopped after the crash but fled moments later. Authorities later located the vehicle. Officers are reviewing nearby surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses to determine the events leading up to the crash.
