Can You Get Compensated if You’re Hurt in a School Bus Crash?
Compensation after a school bus crash depends on who is responsible for the collision. Liability may fall on the bus company, the school district, or another driver involved. Determining fault helps identify which insurance coverage applies to medical bills and other losses.
Passengers on the bus, including children, are often covered under the school district or transportation provider’s insurance. This coverage may include hospital treatment, doctor visits, and physical therapy. If another motorist caused the crash, their insurance may also help pay for injuries and property damage.
Bus accident victims often face hospital stays, therapy, and missed time from work. Keeping organized records, including medical reports, receipts, and the official crash report, can strengthen an insurance or injury claim. These documents help link the injuries directly to the crash.
Because school buses are frequently operated by public entities, claims can involve both private and government insurers. These cases often come with shorter filing deadlines, making it important to act quickly to protect your rights.
An auto accident lawyer can investigate the crash, manage insurance communications, and pursue compensation for medical bills, lost wages, and other damages.
