Bristol, CT (June 16, 2025) – A violent crash in the early hours of Monday morning, June 16, led to the arrest of a Plymouth man accused of driving under the influence and causing serious injuries to one of his passengers.

Authorities say the crash happened around 1:44 a.m. when 30-year-old Ronald Makszin was driving northbound on Lake Avenue in Bristol. As he approached a curve near Middle Street, Makszin reportedly failed to navigate the bend, veering off the road and plowing through the Terry Commons parking lot before crashing into a wooded area.

The vehicle came to rest after slamming into an outbuilding obscured by dense vegetation. Makszin was able to exit the vehicle on his own, but two passengers were injured in the wreck.

One passenger sustained serious injuries and required emergency surgery after being rushed to a local hospital. The second passenger was also hospitalized for evaluation. Their identities have not yet been released.

Following the crash, Makszin was taken into custody and faces several charges, including DUI, second-degree assault with a motor vehicle, assault on public safety personnel (2 counts), interfering with an officer, and failure to keep right on a curve. He is being held on a $150,000 cash/surety bond.

Lake Avenue and Middle Street were shut down for several hours as investigators documented the scene and cleared the wreckage. Both roads have since reopened.

Police continue to investigate and are urging anyone with additional information about the incident to come forward.

We hope for the full and swift recovery of the injured parties.

Connecticut Car Accidents

A DUI crash can shatter lives in a split second, leaving victims to face not only physical pain but also emotional trauma and financial hardship. Unfortunately, Connecticut sees too many devastating accidents each year caused by impaired drivers, resulting in serious injuries ranging from traumatic brain injuries to broken bones and permanent disabilities.

If you or a loved one has been hurt in a collision caused by a drunk or drugged driver, you may be entitled to compensation through a Connecticut personal injury claim. Under the state’s comparative negligence rules, injured parties can pursue damages for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and more, provided they are not found more than 50% at fault for the crash.

Partnering with a skilled DUI car accident attorney is crucial to effectively navigating the legal process. Your lawyer will thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, collect vital evidence such as police and toxicology reports, work with accident reconstruction experts if necessary, and build a strong case proving the impaired driver’s negligence.
