West Haven, CT (December 18, 2024) – A fatal traffic accident happened in West Haven on Monday, December 16. Reports from authorities show a passenger lost their life in a wreck that occurred when a vehicle lost control and struck a police cruiser.
The driver suffered serious injuries and the police officer suffered a serious head injury, according to reports. It happened at approximately 2:20 a.m. on Monday when a Hyundai Elantra was headed east on Derby Avenue at a high rate of speed when it lost control on the ice and left the roadway. The Hyundai spun sideways into a Citgo parking lot and struck the police cruiser observing traffic.
All three victims were taken to local hospitals where the passenger succumbed to his injuries. No one involved has been identified at this time. Police in Shelton continue to investigate.
